i think i have the best job in the world....
This pair of images are placed side by side in my book FRENCH ESSENCE because the colour works so well between them and because they both include some of my favourite things. I like to have a, "Where's Wally" moment when styling images because then when I spot one of my old treasures on the final book page, it always gives me such pleasure. Sometimes I include gifts from lovely friends, bits from my children and Mr FF or just a little something that reminds me of a happy time.
The collage on the left came about when I found some old magazines in a brocante - I adored the woman's face wrapped in the blush and pink border so she became my focus. A postcard of the Cezanne exhibition I attended in Aix, a saved ticket from an opera in Orange and a couple of vintage cards made up the rest. When I look at that image now I can remember exactly those moments.
The photo on the right is of me playing dress ups. It was inspired by two things, an image that photographer Carla Coulson saw in a magazine and the mix of colours in the first photograph. I dug out of my cupboards all I could find that would blend in with the collage. An old chinoiserie jacket and a sari style skirt were my starting point. The rest - the Indian marriage bangles, the old brooch of my mother's, the embroidered scarf and some rings from the market in St Remy de Provence made up the whacky ensemble. The diary was placed there for an extra splash of green and the pencil to draw the eyes down to the bottom of the shot.
