{ you are what you make yourself }

thanks again to everyone who participated in the corvus noir contest. i was really moved by the thoughtfulness and creativity of each entry, and by the enthusiasm and diplomacy of the voters.

now, i am thrilled to announce the imaginative AMANDA as our winner! the votes were close, but her everyday-appropriate interpretation of the idea led her into the lead. congratulations amanda!!

of course, the biggest of thanks goes to corvus noir, for making it all happen ~ let's do it again!
{don't forget to use the coupon code alicenoir10 to receive 10% off any purchase from corvusnoir.com, or from their booth at artists+fleas, until december 25th}

{ corvus noir } the final five

thank you to everyone who sent in photos for the corvus noir competition! i must have the coolest readers in the internet; it was such fun to see all your original interpretations of the wonderland theme!!! i wish every one of you could win, but there were simply too many artistic applicants.

however, everyone who sent me a photo received a secret code ~ and that code is now good for 15% off any purchase at corvusnoir.com or from their booth at artists+fleas until december 25th!

of course, there must ultimately be only one winner for our pretty pocketwatch.
so now, allow me to present our five fantastic finalists:

contestant #1: natasha dressed as a disco-glam 80's alice. i adore the entire ensemble, especially those pleated sleeves ~ they made me grin as big as a cheshire cat!

contestant #2: cris's precocious portrayal of tweedledum & tweedledee made me do a double take, and i love the little ribbon round her neck(s?). she must know i'm a sucker for black bows!

contestant #3: liz handmade this fanciful frock coat! the back is embroidered to read: "no no! adventures first, explanations take such a long time." i'm delighted that she's already halfway down the rabbit hole in this imaginative image.

contestant #4: james gets big bonus points for being the only glamour guy to compete ~ and for knocking it out of the park with his mad hatter makeup! this mister's got all the dandy details down.

contestant #5: amanda's in with an outfit that would work just about anywhere, but who's essence is entirely alice. plus, her superbly shrunken set is absolutely sublime!

~~~
seriously, how amazing is each entry?! there's no way i could pick a favorite from among these fancy folks; i need you all to do it for me! cast your vote in the comments {using either their name or contestant #}. voting will be open until the end of day on tuesday, december 8th {EST}.
further frosting: all commentators are eligible to receive 10% off any corvusnoir.com purchase until december 25th, by using the coupon code alicenoir10, or by mentioning this competition at artists+fleas!
~~~

update: VOTING IS NOW CLOSED. COMMENTS LEFT AFTER 12am WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 9th WILL NOT BE COUNTED IN THE FINAL TALLY.

all tomorrow's parties

last week, i asked for your help deciding how to fill my new yves saint laurent frames (big thanks to all who commented!), and the overwhelming majority voted for option:
(a) a soft, mid-tint, fawn ombre lens :

because i was a fan of all three choices, i was relieved to acquiesce control over the decision! i'm very pleased with the result, but was surprised by how much the lenses absorb light from the rose-tinted frames, so that they look quite pinkish in bright light ~ it is an unexpected, but not unwelcome twist.

vintage yves saint laurent sunnies, reworked vintage dress (i added the fringe), vintage silk crepe pants, self-designed necklace

i just finished this necklace yesterday. it might be part of a special mini-collection that i might be designing for maybe a wee etsy shop. perhaps. i'm not telling ;)

what costume shall the poor girl wear?

a friend of mine recently sent over a sweet surprise: charming, pink, vintage yves saint laurent frames (thanks friend!). when they arrived, i was spending the day with another, very small friend (who happens to be an aspiring supermodel), and the new frames inspired an impromptu photo shoot:

while it's obvious this kid's got bright lights in her future, i also expect these rims to play a starring role in mine. i just know they're going to be a summer favorite, so i have a big decision to make: what sort of lenses to fit in them?

ladies and gentlemen, meet the candidates ~

(a) a soft, mid-tint, fawn ombre lens:

(b) a deep, diva black lens (matching limo windows not included):

(c) a space-age, bottle-green, beetle wing, reflective lens:

a decision if this magnitude can't be made alone! advise me, please!

what will it be? a, b, or c?
please leave your selection in the comments below.
the winning lens will be unveiled in one week!

(all mini-glam model bookings on hold until she graduates the 1st grade)
