Fashion for everyone

in my family, we're big on tradition ~ especially at christmastime ~ and every year, the list of holiday rituals grows. we love adding new ones! indeed, since last year {when my sister and i coordinated in salt + pepper ensembles} we have decided it will forevermore be customary to wear lace on christmas day:

last night's alexander wang party ~ held at the same mobil gas station where elle.com found me last week ~ may easily prove to be the highlight of new york fashion week. i probably don't even need to leave the house again.

in the coolest catering choice ever, all the candy and red bull and tic-tacs in the convenience store were free, so the crowd was completely sugar-high by the time COURTNEY LOVE appeared onstage (in front of the carwash). no big deal, just totally surreal.

i was glad to have my favorite merry-maker by my side to geek out with, and to assure me that all the ridiculousness around us was real:

case in point? i shouldn't have been a bit surprised to run into the inimitable tavi backstage (aka: the oil change center) after the show. that's just fashion week for ya!

just back & still spinning from a gorgeous girls-only getaway in mexcio, where my mom, sister and i indulged in sunlight, snorkeling, sangria, and spanish smocks!

beachy stylings aside, we couldn't compete with the natural views - and were certainly too lazy to try - but i swear i'll share a few more looks nevertheless.

in a streamery of consciousness, these two miss cleos next made me think of one chloe ~ she of the beautiful beckerman sisterly three, whose blog i just discovered and am consequently completely addicted to:

the sisters beckerman collaborate on ~ what else? ~ beckerman ~ a whimsy-full clothing line ~ and seem to know all the best secret vintage spots in new york city. warning: girl-crush triple threat!

it seems i've just been schooled on how to properly wear my own accessories, by our special guest star, miniglam:

she tells me that the pinker and sparklier your heels, the closer you are to high school. there's some kind of wisdom there, i'm sure.

a friend of mine recently sent over a sweet surprise: charming, pink, vintage yves saint laurent frames (thanks friend!). when they arrived, i was spending the day with another, very small friend (who happens to be an aspiring supermodel), and the new frames inspired an impromptu photo shoot:

while it's obvious this kid's got bright lights in her future, i also expect these rims to play a starring role in mine. i just know they're going to be a summer favorite, so i have a big decision to make: what sort of lenses to fit in them?

blame it on the recession, hand it to all the cool girls crafting across the internets, give it to the green movement, but there's no denying the do-it-yourself ethos has gone viral!

glamourai reader madeline created her own version of my DIY candied crumbcatcher, itself an awestruck imitation of the gorgeous marni breastplates. i love that this project is so personal ~ it's all about integrating and celebrating your personal favorite trinkets:

louis vuitton's runway was another favorite, for its delightful deluge of ditzy DIY ideas, one of the simplest suggestions being the groovy, pre-school-style, paper chain collars. ever on point, elle.com has launched a video tutorial for recreating the look here.

i'm thrilled that the freshest fashion DIY's are all about decorating, rather than destructing (enough with ripped tights already, no?!).

i spent most of this morning discovering a bounty of beautiful new {to me} bloggers, thanks to the weardrobe 100 ~ a supercool directory of the top style blogs of 2009. i'm honored to be part of the lineup, and even more excited to add some fresh links to my daily visit list. it's yet another great way to kick off the new year!
