Rope Tricks

The lovely thing about having a blog is getting to meet all sorts of people that you might not ever meet otherwise. I essentially was introduced to Pam Liou through blogging, and got to know her while we were doing a DIY or DIE event together at Urban Outfitters a few years back. Pam had just started working on her line of knitted chain jewelry, Langoliers, and for the event, she demonstrated how to knit your own chain bracelet. A lot has happened since for Pam, and after partnering with our friend Zon, the pair spent the past year developing the collection into a full-fledged line, finding production help to create the intricate handmade pieces. Named after the aliens from a Stephen King novel, Langoliers is built on the foundation of the knit chain pieces that Pam started with. To complement these free-form, draping designs, there are cuffs cast from crochet, pieces where solid metal castings are interwoven with loose chain, and a sturdy brass breastplate that hangs from knit cord. I love how the entire collection centers around treating metal like yarn, or conversely turning yarn into metal, and all of the pieces play beautifully with this theme.
