{ costume of the day } tiger eyes

yesterday, i prowled around town in this leopard-spotted, dolman-sleeve dynasty dress. to me, animal prints are totally classic, yet i admit when i bought this piece it screamed 80s! (or did it roar?)

i did my best to bring it to 'today' by removing the shoulder pads (sometimes they work, but not with this print), and taking the ruffly skirt length up by half. this was an easy feat thanks to the low hip seam - i merely folded the hem under and basted it to this seam by hand. i quite like the way the excess fabric, now hidden inside, adds a tad more volume to the silhouette of the dress.

i also nixed the matching leopard belt for a more modern option, and kept the rest of my accessories fairly streamlined. if anything, simple accessorizing may be the trick to pulling off more outre vintage fashions. then again, what do i know about simplicity?!?

custom sunnies, self-designed earrings + bracelet, vintage joseph ribkoff dress, h+m belt, melie bianco bag, kenneth cole clogs
