{ costume of the day } who loves short shirts?

now that the summer heat has hit new york in full steam, i only want to wear breezy little things that float off the body. since i'm not one for skimpy skeezies, i'm playing with proportion in an attempt to remain both cool and, well, cool!

i found this blouse a while back on the sale rack at gap (bought it two sizes up, on purpose). i loved the lightweight fabric & the bleachy floral print, but it was originally hip length with an elasticized, gathered hem ~ i knew even as i paid for it that this would need to change. soon as we were home, i hacked off 8 inches, sewed a quick finish, and had my first ever crop top!

as a lady never shows her belly off on the street, i paired it with a high-waisted pouf skirt. i love the way this combination gives me a tweedledee / tweedledum silhouette! but the best part is that, other than the skirt's waistband, not a bit of it is touching my body. as hoped, it floats! sweat-free? c'est chic!

calvin klein sunnies, self-designed bib (coming soon to shrimpton couture!), reworked gap blouse, custom skirt, club monaco clutch, kenneth cole shoes, hello kitty band-aid

by the by,
the swelle life did a delightful piece on the decadent designer salon being cultivated over at shrimpton couture. check out the story here!
